Residential Plumber Services and Frequently Asked Questions

Published Date: July 28th, 2015 | Category: Plumbing Tips

As a residential plumber serving Shoreview and the surrounding areas, we are often asked the same questions about our services and tips and tools of the trade. These questions are some of the ones we hear the most often. And you can always call us if you have any questions about plumbing and our services that are not covered here.

Q: Why is my faucet dripping?

A: The usual reason for a leaky faucet is that the washers in them need to be replaced. This is a relatively simple task but if you have never done it before, you should call a residential plumber, like the ones at All Ways Drains, for help.

Q: How can I prevent my shower drain from clogging?

A: Clogged drains in your shower are pretty common. The best way to try to avoid this problem is to get a screen to put over your shower drain that will trap hair and other debris before it gets down into the drain. These traps are inexpensive and easy to put down onto the top of the drain. Just make sure you clear out the traps every time you take a shower.

Q: My toilet keeps running. Is this a big deal?

A: Yes. Not only is it annoying, but it can also waste money and water. If you pay a water bill, a leaky or running toilet can cause you to spend about $100/year more on that bill. And even if you don’t pay a monthly water bill, this is a big waste and is detrimental to the environment.

Q: How should I care for and maintain my garbage disposal?

A: This is a great question because garbage disposals are so easy to misuse, and they can break very easily if you’re not careful. If you are grinding food, use cold water to move the waste down and through your drain lines. You should only put biodegradable food items in there, and you should also avoid putting foods with a high fiber content in there. You should never put items down there like clam or oyster shells, aluminum foil or bottle caps. These can cause quite a bit of damage to your garbage disposal.

Q: Are most plumbing repairs do-it-yourself projects, or should I call a professional residential plumber for assistance?

A: Most of your plumbing work should be done by a professional residential plumber. This is especially true if you have never attempted any plumbing repair work on your own before.
